OUTrageous Brunch with Hugs and Quiches - Art Ventures - 11:00am-1:00pm

Art Ventures will host a private brunch and unique viewing of the recently unveiled OUTrageous exhibition.

Co-founders and organizers Amanda Arafat and Grayce Wylder cited the local community’s ingrained habit of shopping locally as a tool to support the LGBTQ+ community.

“Shoppers are excited because they get to see and meet up with a bunch of their friends who all want to support local, queer-owned businesses, and the vendors are more comfortable,” Arafat said.

The pair formed the market after feeling powerless as a surge of legislation affecting transgender and other LGBTQ+ residents became law in Arkansas in 2021.

“We were both incredibly frustrated, disappointed, depressed, feeling without community during that pride season of 2021 because there were awful trans bans and anti-trans legislation that was being introduced locally,” Arafat said.

Arafat originally had the idea to have a small bake sale in a backyard to raise funds for Intransitive, a queer advocacy group, which was thought to be a one-time event.
