  • HOTEL PLAZA OSAKA

    Shin Kitano, Osaka

The Hotel Plaza Osaka is a 5-minute walk from the Hankyu Juso station. Osaka Pride is also known as Rainbow Festa and focused around Ogimachi Park where there are many stalls with food, charities, crafts, LGBTQ+ resources and local businesses.

The park is also where the Pride Parade starts and finishes.

I’d been told that Osaka was very welcoming for LGBTQ+ travellers so this was a very postive start to prove that to be the case!

When it comes to gay travel in Osaka, the city has a lot to offer, more than I expected in fact. The first Osaka Station was born in this very location ...

Osaka has the main gay scene in Doyama, close to Umeda Station.

    gay hotel osaka

Maximum age here is 49 and if you appear over 40 they will ask for ID – sounds harsh to me but I am just reporting your options here (reviews online are positive).

They have the usual options of a sauna, sunroof in the summer etc.

    Price is 2300-2800 yen.

    Sports Men Club Osaka

Another strict policy here, it’s giving masc for masc only vibes asking for short hair, shaved head and age 18 to 50’s men.

Like most gay popular cities, the gay area is considered to be around where you will find the majority of the gay bars.

Most of the gay bars in Osaka can all be found in the Doymacho area which has therefore become known as the main gay area of Osaka.

The nearest station is Umeda which is an absolute maze to exit so take your time.

  • hotel it. The bartenders are super friendly and I loved the slightly naughty art decorating the walls inside.

Eagle does have a cover charge so double check what the price is that night although it was generally very reasonable.

    Fundoshi Bar (Concept)

Here I am only going to explain the concept and not name the bar as I was asked not to.

  • Centara Grand Hotel Osaka

    Namba, Osaka

Designed with breathtaking modern architecture, Centara Grand Hotel Osaka is a 33-storey visual ...

The most likely way you are going to be able to have an experience like this is through meeting a local as when we went, it was through a local connection and we were the only tourists there (we were not sure they would allow us in).

But what is a Fundoshi Bar? Let’s start with the fundoshi – it is a piece of cloth, tied in a specific way and worn as thong-esque underwear.

Again a one room bar but decorated in the most eclectic, vibrant, colourful and bonkers way I have ever seen.

With Mario Kart available to play on the wall, of course karaoke and drinks that were a little too generous, this was a very cool spot to hang out.

    Eagle Osaka

Somewhere to finish your night and have a dance…

Eagle Osaka has that age old cheeky ‘Eagle’ vibe with lockers available if you want to remove a few layers.

Downstairs is a stage area and dancefloor and upstairs a large bar area.

You will be spoilt for choice by all the options here and again I would suggest grab and go to try as many different things as possible.

It is also home to the Shinsekai Tower which is another great photo spot.

    Wrap up

Osaka is a great destination for LGBTQ+ travellers and a gateway to see more of Japan, make sure that you spend 2 or 3 nights here when you visit this vibrant and unique country!

  • Gay Travel Osaka

Osaka is the third largest city in Japan and a major center of business, food, and entertainment.

The crowd here is quite young and touristy.

It’s colourful, friendly and like you will find in most places, has karaoke available which pretty much the entire bar took part in.

    Yuntaka

This was a super small and very local bar with just a couple of tables and then seating at the bar.

If you want a calm moment in an intimate space to catch up with friends with food and drinks then this is a good option.
