Career

John Early began his career in New York’s alternative comedy scene, performing at venues like the Cake Shop and Ars Nova, where he became an Artist in Residence and Comedy Curator, hosting the monthly variety show Showgasm.

Even if someone’s a great guitar player, it’s like, “Well, how do they sing?” Singing is like a vanity thing.

EARLY: Exactly. An only child, he grew up in a devoutly religious household, attending church weekly until age 18.

He graduated from the University School of Nashville in 2006, where he performed in school plays and developed a love for acting.

I’ve always wanted to do “Caught Out There.” 

FERREIRA: That was my favorite song growing up. So while that shift works in my favor, it also means people just expect me to put myself out there. Do you feel like there was a meme-able moment? 

Probably my “Ask App Not to Track” joke. But the reason I’m compelled to even do her at all is because I’m drawn to things that are a little psychologically dark or haunted.
